Film + Animation

Practical Logo Animation for House Post

Logo animation for House Post. The process was inspired by traditional practical special effects techniques for logo and title animation. We accomplished this with bleach-white paper boxes, magnetized to acrylic stands, illuminated by blacklight, using a dolly, shot on 16mm film.

My role was as Art Director, Nik and I came up with the practical effect method. I worked on sourcing of materials, crafting and imagining of physical props and set design.

Bubba

"Bubba" is a experimental documentary I directed, narrated by Nirmal, my grandfather (Bubba), and built from abstract, non-literal imagery, this film explores the experience of belonging, assimilation and how recollections change overtime. It's a story of my grandpa's immigration from India to Canada at age twelve and all the complexities that come with it.

Film is currently being submitted to festivals but so far has been accepted into festivals such as;

DOXA
(Western Canada’s Biggest Documentary Film Festival) (Vancouver)
RIDM Montréal Documentary Film Festival (Montréal)
The Alternative Film Festival
(Toronto)
Pebbles Film Festival (Milan)
CUTV Community Film Showcase
(Montreal)
FearNoFilm Festival (Salt Lake City, USA).

Arcteryx Animation - Squamish Exposed

SIX CREATIVES. FIVE DAYS. ONE SHOWDOWN.

One of the standout stories from this year's Climb Academy was the return of Squamish Exposed, reimagined as a multimedia storytelling challenge.

Evan Wong kindly invited me to animate atop of his film for the Arcteryx Squamish Exposed competition to emphasize the events theme of “flow”.

Project placed third place at the event.

Beetle Pathways

I’ve always loved the pathways beetles leave on bark and wanted to make a little stop motion animation of them.

Mixed Media Animations

Two mixed media animations done in same style. Digital/Archival footage is printed and then drawn over and scanned to make new digital, hand-made feeling pieces.

  Experimental Typography 35mm

For this experimental type animation, I found interest in working in an analog, stop-motion style. I was inspired by projects like “Linear Dreams” Richard Reeves, “Rhythmic” Norman McLaren, “Korean Alphabet” Kim In Tae (NFB) and, the more recent work of Sylvian Chaussée.

I created this stop motion by scratching and painting and inking the individual 35mm frames, then scanning and stitching them together to make this film inspired by typography and letterforms.
